About Us
The Provincetown Theater is a nonprofit performing arts organization located in the East End of Provincetown—the birthplace of American theater. Our 110-seat venue operates year-round, producing bold new works and reimagined classics that amplify a wide range of American voices.
Since our founding in 2001, we’ve been a leader in developing and presenting vital, original theater on Cape Cod. Our work champions emerging and established playwrights alike, supporting artists in every discipline as they bring compelling stories to the stage.
Each season, the Provincetown Theater offers a mix of full productions, special events, and community-centered programs—ranging from holiday shows to variety nights that spotlight local talent. We’re committed to nurturing artistic risk-taking while engaging audiences in work that challenges, entertains, and sparks dialogue.
Our solar-powered facility includes a comfortable lounge, ample on-site parking, and a welcoming space for artists and audiences alike. Visitors from Cape Cod and around the world make us part of their Provincetown experience.

Artistic Director - David Drake
David Drake has been putting on shows since he was a kid. He's been the Artistic Director at the Provincetown Theater for seven years.

In New York City, David has directed works at Rattlestick, The Flea, Soho Playhouse, and Joe’s Pub. Collaborating with Taylor Mac, he directed and developed The Lily’s Revenge at the Sundance Theater Lab prior to staging its world premiere at HERE in New York (Obie Award). Also with Taylor, David directed the world tour of The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac.

As an actor, David got his Equity card off-Broadway, replacing Charles Busch in Vampire Lesbians of Sodom at the Provincetown Playhouse.
He appeared in the original New York casts of A Language of Their Own (Public), End of the World Party (46th Street Theater), Pretty Boy (Performing Garage), and The Boys in the Band (1996 revival at Lucille Lortel). Television: The Good Wife, NY Undercover, HBO’s Vinyl, and as a repeat offender on Law & Order. His film credits include Longtime Companion, It’s Pat, David Searching, We Pedal Uphill, Philadelphia, and opposite Alan Cumming in After Louie. Regionally, David has appeared at A.R.T., Huntington, Barrington Stage, Arena Stage, San Diego’s Old Globe, and numerous others.

David is the Obie Award-winning playwright and performer of The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me, in which he performed a year off-Broadway (Perry Street) before touring worldwide and then shooting it as a feature film. David has taught at New York’s Abrons Art Center, and Baltimore’s MICA, and received artist residencies in New York at The BRICLab, DTW, Clemente Soto, Dixon Place.
Managing Director - Gary Garrison
From 2007-2017, Gary Garrison was the Executive Director of the Dramatist Guild of America – the national organization of playwrights, lyricists, and composers headed by our nation’s most honored dramatists. Up to the spring of 2020, he was also the Director of the Dramatist Guild Institute – a premier educational institution dedicated to the continued education of dramatists throughout the country. Prior to his work at the Guild, Garrison filled the posts of Associate Chair, Artistic Director, and Master Teacher of Playwriting in the Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where he produced over forty-five different festivals of new work, collaborating with hundreds of playwrights, directors, and actors.
As a playwright, Garrison’s plays include The Mayworkers, The Unexpected Light On Azadeh Medusa, Too Quick to Pick, Ties That Bind, Skirting the Issue, Caught Without Candy, Game On, The Sweep, Verticals and Horizontals, Storm on Storm, Crater, Old Soles, Padding The Wagon, Rug Store Cowboy, Cherry Reds, Gawk, Oh Messiah Me, We Make A Wall, The Big Fat Naked Truth, Scream With Laughter, Smoothness With Cool, Empty Rooms, Does Anybody Want A Miss Cow Bayou? and When A Diva Dreams. This work has been commissioned by or featured at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, City Theatre of Miami, Boston Theatre Marathon, Primary Stages, The Directors Company, The Theresa Rebeck Writers Residency (through The Lark), Manhattan Theatre Source, StageWorks, Open Door Theatre, Pulse Ensemble Theatre, Expanded Arts and New York Rep.

His recent work as a guest artist or master teacher of playwriting involves such institutions as the Marfa Intensives, Convivio Writer’s Conference (Postignano, Italy), Sewanee Writer’s Conference, The Kennedy Center Summer Playwriting Intensive, CityWrights of Miami, The Inkwell, Source Theatre in D.C., Baltimore Playwrights Festival, New Hampshire Playwrights Festival, Last Frontier Theatre Conference, Southeast Theatre Conference, Northwest Theatre Conference, Alaska World Arts Festival, Boston Playwrights and has taught at New York University, Boston University, University of Oklahoma, The University of Texas, Hollins University, Goddard College, Texas State University, Texas Tech, University of Southern Mississippi, West Georgia College and the Dramatists Guild Institute.
He is the author of the critically acclaimed, The Playwright’s Survival Guide: Keeping the Drama in Your Work and Out of Your Life, Perfect Ten: Writing and Producing the Ten‑Minute Play, A More Perfect Ten, and two volumes of Monologues for Men by Men. In April of 2014, The Kennedy Center instituted the National Gary Garrison Ten-Minute Play Award given to the best ten-minute play written by a university dramatist, and in the spring of 2016, awarded him the Milan Stitt Outstanding Teacher of Playwriting in the country. In July of this year, he was featured in American Theatre magazine’s The Subtext podcast with Brian James Polk under the title, More Than Ten Minutes with Gary Garrison.

After earning a B.S. and M.B.A. from Northeastern University, David Wilson embarked on a 30-year career with Verizon Communications serving in a number of middle and senior management positions across New England and New York. David began a second career with Spaulding and Sly, Colliers, a National Real Estate Development Company where he served as vice president for Facility and Property management services before retiring.

Following his retirement, David and his husband, Rob Compton moved to Provincetown where David joined The Provincetown Theater Board. He was elected president of the Board in 2017. In addition, David has served in leadership positions on The Human Rights Campaign, MassEquality, and the GLAD board.
Ross Ozer
President
Ross Ozer is an artist, creative strategist, and community advocate who brings a lifelong passion for storytelling, design, and leadership to his role as President of the Provincetown Theater’s Board of Directors. Since stepping into board leadership, Ross has helped guide the Theater through a period of growth, resilience, and renewed community connection—strengthening donor engagement, expanding partnerships, and championing the Theater’s role as a vital cultural hub on Cape Cod.

Before devoting himself full-time to his art practice and nonprofit work, Ross spent over two decades as a senior executive at Fidelity Investments, where he led award-winning marketing and business consulting initiatives. His professional background in strategic planning, branding, and audience development continues to inform his work with the Theater, helping to amplify its mission and impact.

As an encaustic artist working under the name rjostudio, Ross also maintains studios in Boston and Provincetown and exhibits his work in galleries and juried shows throughout New England. He is honored to support a Theater that nurtures bold voices, meaningful stories, and the creative spirit of Provincetown.
Nicole Barnum
Vice President
Nicole is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She worked in film production before beginning her legal career as a public defender in New York City, where she represented adults and children accused of crimes. She later started her own law firm, handling all types of family law matters as well as criminal and federal civil rights cases. Nicole has conducted continuing attorney legal education for experienced attorneys and supervised and mentored law students and new attorneys. She has extensive experience counseling clients through high-conflict litigation and is trained in Restorative Practice and mediation. Nicole volunteered for her law school’s Gay Men’s Health Crisis Wills Project, with the New York Civil Rights Coalition, and for a farm cooperative.
Jack Hudson
Treasurer
Jack Hudson graduated from Fairfield University with a B.S. in Accounting. His professional experiences have taken him to Price Waterhouse Coopers and Avon Products, Inc., where his focus was on process design initiatives in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina and global internal audits. Jack purchased an event production and fundraising consulting company in Los Angeles where he oversaw all event production and peer-to-peer fundraising consulting services provided to non-profit clients raising money to fight causes such as breast cancer, suicide, multiple sclerosis, intellectual disabilities, HIV/AIDS, and Alzheimer’s. A year after relocating to Provincetown, Jack opened one of the first medical marijuana dispensaries in the Commonwealth, which was sold in 2018.
Diedra Dietter
Secretary
Diedra is a Clinical Social Worker residing with her husband, Michael, in North Truro and Farmington, Connecticut. She retired in 2021 from the West Hartford Public School System in West Hartford, Connecticut following a 27 year career. She is a member of the Pamet Harbor Club and an avid gardener. She enjoys entertaining, traveling, playing Mahjong and experiencing the natural beauty of the Outer Cape.
Mary Ashley
Member
Mary Ashley moved to North Truro five years ago after living in the Boston area for almost 40 years. She graduated with a degree in Applied Music in Horn (French horn) from Northwestern University and had a career as a professionalmusician. Between Boston and Providence, Mary played with many classical music organizations and performed at numerous shows including CATS, 42nd Street, La Cage Aux Folles, and The Sound of Music, among others. Mary works as a gallery associate at the On Center Gallery in Provincetown. She serves as the Board Secretary of the Soup Kitchen in Provincetown (SKIP). She is also chair of the volunteer committee and is responsible for scheduling volunteers. Mary and her husband Dave Bannard are avid Provincetown Theater fans as well as regular season subscribers and donors.
Tim Brown

Tim Brown is a sales associate with Seascape Realty, Inc. Having personally owned homes, an inn, and investment properties on the Cape over the past 10 years, Tim possesses local property knowledge and deep connections. Prior to living on Cape Cod, Tim’s 30-year history working in financial services, specifically Equity Capital Markets, has helped him hone his skills with an emphasis on responsiveness, attention to detail, and an end-in-sight negotiating perspective. Tim remains completely entranced by this special community due to its acceptance of diverse lifestyles and commitment to the arts in all its forms. Cape Cod’s natural beauty and bounty also provide an excellent backdrop for Tim’s passions for food and fitness.
James Jackson, Jr.

James Jackson, Jr. is an Obie Award-winning artist for his work in the Pulitzer Prize and TONY Award-winning musical A Strange Loop. As a cabaret artist whose work has been seen across the country at Joe’s Pub, the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Duane Park, 54 Below, the A.R.T.'s Club Oberon, Los Angeles’ Lyric Theatre, and The Green Room 42 with hit shows Shady Sings the Blues, I Just Wanted to Wear This, and The Black-Ups (with co-creators LaDonna Burns and Elliot Roth), James has also graced the prestigious stages of Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall. In addition to sold-out cabaret work with the Juneteenth Provincetown Committee, James has performed at The Provincetown Theater, Post Office Cabaret, The Wilde, The Mary Heaton Vorse House, and Tin Pan Alley. As an arts-educator, James has taught at Manhattanville University, University of South Florida (Tampa & Sarasota), Open Jar Institute, and his alma mater Westfield State University where he was named 2024 Alumni of the Year, and keynote speaker for the 2025 Sankofa Awards. He has also worked closely with Skyline Arts and The Youth Foundation of Jersey City. Off-broadway, James was last seen in White Girl in Danger (Second Stage/The Vineyard), with other stage credits including The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Whistle Down the Wind (National Tour), Dreamgirls (DASH Award), The Wild Party (SpeakEasy Stage), and Exigent Theatre’s gay re-invention Henri Gabler. Michael Onofrio
Member
Michael Onofrio holds a B.S. in Business Administration and Computer Science and an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of New Haven and attended the Darden School of Business Emerging Leader's program. He is the senior IT business partner at Sikorsky Aircraft, a Lockheed Martin company. In this capacity, he is responsible for representing Information Technology within the senior leadership. Previously, Michael directed a variety of positions that led contract negotiations, acquisition integrations, capacity planning, and cost control, large-scale budget management, hiring and retention technology solutions, and multi-million-dollar project lifecycle management. Michael previously owned and operated Antiques on Whitney for 16 years and held the position of president of Giant Valley Antique Dealers Association.
Brian Raiche

​ Brian Raiche is a Fundraising Consultant, Real Estate Professional, Musician, and Episcopal Priest. He holds a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), an M.A. from The Catholic University of America, and an M.Div. from the Toronto School of Theology. Currently, Brian serves as the Rector of St. Mary of the Harbor in Provincetown. In addition to his ministry, Brian is President and Senior Principal at Cornerstone Fundraising, LLC, a leading development firm in New England, and a Real Estate Professional with William Raveis in Provincetown. A dedicated advocate for diversity and inclusion, he is a founding member of the LGBTQ+ Real
Estate Alliance. His community involvement includes past service on the boards of Dinah’s House, a drop-in center for underserved women in Haverhill, TheNewburyport Affordable Housing Trust, and Roof Over Head.
In 2023, Brian relocated to Provincetown with his husband, Loren Lee, and their dog, Chloe. Together, they have embraced the vibrant local community, becoming
enthusiastic supporters of the Provincetown Theater as fans, season subscribers, and donors. Brian is honored to deepen his connection to the theater by joining the
Board, bringing his passion for the arts and community service to this cherished institution.
Brian Sarr

Brian Sarr was born and raised in West Hartford CT. A classic middle child in a large family with 6 siblings. He moved to Boston in 1980 after graduating from the College of the Holy Cross with a BS in psychology. He spent several years living in various neighborhoods in Boston and Cambridge before moving to Bedford with his partner Jack Regan. In 1996 they adopted their first son Benjamin and in 2001 they adopted their second son Griffin. Sadly in 2008 Jack was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away in 2011. Brian spent the majority of his career in adverting sales and marking creating TV and digital campaigns for local businesses. He recently retired in 2022 and now volunteers for Care Dimensions as a hospice volunteer and is working with NAMI (National Allliance for Mental Illness) as a mental health educator. He also raises money for various local Provincetown organizations by participating in the annual Swim for Life each year. Brian is very excited to be nominated and voted in as a new board member at the Provincetown Theater.

Land Acknowledgement
The Provincetown Theater is located on the ancestral land of the Mashpee Wampanoag (Wôpanâak), “the People of the First Light”, who have lived on Cape Cod for more than 12,000 years. Present-day Provincetown was a territory of the Nauset tribe, a branch of the Mashpee, who named this land Meeshawn.

The Provincetown Theater recognizes that this is unceded land. We are working to honor past generations of people who have been displaced from the area and to establish authentic relationships with the present-day Indigenous peoples of Cape Cod.
