Provincetown Theater is honored to welcome a singular artist whose voice speaks volumes—even when he says nothing at all. From June 26–28, celebrated mime, actor, and playwright Bill Bowers brings his acclaimed solo show It Goes Without Saying to our stage as part of the 4-Star Solo Show Festival.
Bowers is no stranger to storytelling that transcends words. Trained by the legendary Marcel Marceau and known for his Broadway appearances in The Lion King and The Scarlet Pimpernel, Bill has spent his career creating solo work that blends movement, memory, humor, and pathos. With It Goes Without Saying, he invites us into the deeply personal terrain of growing up gay in small-town Montana, surviving the AIDS crisis, mourning lost love, and finding joy in the body, in silence, and in self-expression.
Why His Work Belongs in Provincetown
Provincetown has long been a haven for voices that challenge, affirm, and transform. Bill Bowers fits beautifully into that tradition. His work is queer, poetic, and grounded in the power of live performance to awaken empathy and connection. As he shifts seamlessly between characters and memories—without ever uttering a word—he reminds us of the rich legacy of artists who’ve found their way to Provincetown: seekers, survivors, visionaries, and storytellers.
It Goes Without Saying speaks to the Provincetown community not just because it’s LGBTQ+ storytelling, but because it’s about transformation—of grief into grace, of silence into language, of vulnerability into strength. In a place that has always celebrated the intersection of artistry and identity, Bill’s performance is not only relevant—it’s essential.
A Voice That Transcends
Bill Bowers’ artistry transcends traditional categories. His voice, while often wordless, is unmistakably resonant. As an author and performer, he captures the rhythms of loss and laughter, longing and belonging. He invites us to lean in, to pay attention, and to witness what can happen when a body becomes a vessel for story.
In Provincetown—where the stage has always been a place of resistance, revelation, and renewal—Bill’s work offers a reminder: that sometimes the deepest truths are the ones that go without saying.
Join us June 26–28 at 7 PM at the Provincetown Theater for It Goes Without Saying.
Let’s come together for an unforgettable evening of silence, movement, and meaning.
