O'Keeffe!
By Lucinda McDermott
June 5-7 at 7pm
In her acclaimed solo play O’Keeffe!, Lucinda McDermott (she/her) brings the iconic artist to life with fresh insight and newly uncovered research. First premiering Off-Broadway in 1992, McDermott revitalized the piece in 2021, sharpening its language and deepening its portrait of Georgia O’Keeffe. Having toured across the U.S., Bermuda, and Mexico—from state-of-the-art theaters to festivals, universities, and even a barn—O’Keeffe! showcases McDermott’s dynamic talents as an actor and playwright. A prolific artist with over thirty plays to her name, McDermott is also an intimacy director, teaching artist, and musician, calling Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains home.
TRANScripts
By Joshua Irving Gershick
June 12-14 at 7 pm
It’s a terrifying time to be transgender in America, but GLAAD-Award-winning playwright, author, journalist and filmmaker Joshua Irving Gershick knows firsthand the power of the personal story to change hearts and minds. In this funny, thought-provoking multimedia show, Gershick and a chorus of other trans voices share their surprising, inspiring and sometimes uncomfortably affirming walk through the world. Gershick – one part Eve Ensler, one part Studs Terkel – asks: How do we begin to see the divine in each other? It may all start with “Hello.”
